February Home Court Hero Presentation- 2/2/08
Kapco President Jim Kacmarcik, Milwaukee Bucks Desmond Mason and Jake Voskuhl are honoring February’s Kapco’s Home Court Hero Recipient, Clayborn Benson, Founder and the Executive Director of the Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum. In 1983, while working as a photojournalist at WTMJ-TV, Benson began working on a project concerning the history of African Americans in Wisconsin. During the three-year project Benson discovered Wisconsin’s African American history was widely scattered and poorly preserved. Benson felt the stories had to be told and developed a museum for the culture of African American Wisconsinites. In February of 1987, the Wisconsin Black Historical Museum became a reality. The Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum located on 27th and West Center Streets. The mission of the Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum is to document and preserve the historical heritage of African descent in Wisconsin. The Museum exhibits, collects and disseminates materials depicting this heritage. Serving as a resource center for all people interested in Wisconsin’s rich African American heritage, the Museum's purpose is to encourage and promote family community and cultural activities. Benson has been the recipients of many awards and citations for his work in photography and preserving history. The Milwaukee Bucks and Kapco congratulate Clayborn Benson February’s Home Court Hero. The Milwaukee Bucks thank Kapco for supporting Home Court Heroes. For Kapco there is no single greater reward than giving back to the community. Kapco…making people our priority!
