Home Court Hero Presentation- 4/4/09
Kapco President Jim Kacmarcik, along with Milwaukee Bucks player Luc Richard Mbah A Moute, are honoring the April 4, 2009 Kapco Home Court Hero Recipient – DEMETRIUS TURNER and his family including his mother, sister and nephews as well as his Bayview High School coach Tyler Podoll.
Demetrius, a 17 year old, 6'5" junior basketball player at Bay View High School is a hero for demonstrating perseverance through extremely tough times in his life. Over the past 3 years, something tragic has happened to his family during basketball season. When he was a freshman, his stepfather died of a heart attack. When he was a sophomore, his grandfather died. At the start of the 08-09 basketball season his aunt died and at the end of the season his grandmother died. His mother also has been fighting breast cancer, and to top it off, his family lost their rented house and everything they owned in a fire in February. Through these terrible, life altering events, Demetrius has remained committed and dedicated to school and the basketball program. His basketball teammates donated clothing to his family and during the WIAA tournament, teams and fans collected $1,300. Coach Podoll stated, "With all that has happened to Demetrius, there was a time when he was lost. He didn't have anybody guiding him or mentoring him, but now he gets it. He sees what everyone has done for him, and it makes him want to do the right thing." Demetrius is truely deserving of this award and is a hero to his family, basketball team and community.
The Milwaukee Bucks thank Kapco for supporting Home Court Heroes. For Kapco there is no single greater reward than giving back to the community. Kapco…making people our priority!
